The Sharp :: Music Photography

Showing my age here, but back in the 90’s, my favourite local band, bar none, was The Sharp.

The Sharp are a Melbourne four-piece pop, rockabilly band which formed in 1991 with Allan Catlin on double bass and lead vocals, Piet Collins on drums and Charlie Rooke on guitar and lead vocals. They issued two studio albums, This Is the Sharp (1993) and Sonic Tripod (1994). Their highest-charting single, “Alone Like Me” (1994), reached the ARIA Singles Chart top 20.

When the opportunity came up to photograph the band (including two new members), I’m not sure I’ve ever agreed to a shoot faster. I had the absolute joy of attending an early rehearsal before the session, and the memories came flooding back. I even assisted with a harmony they were trying to remember.

I’m thrilled with the photos, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming gigs.
